About EuroSDR
European Spatial Data Research
A Pan-European Research Organisation
EuroSDR is a pan-European organisation established, as OEEPE, in 1953
in Paris, in accordance with a recommendation passed by the Council of
the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation.
Seventeen countries comprise the current membership of EuroSDR. Delegates
from national mapping organisations, research institutes and the private
sector from the member countries devise together a rolling research plan
every three years. The plan aims to address the research needs of core
spatial data provision, management and delivery. It is realised through
timely applied international collaborative research projects, focussed
workshops and specialist taskforces. Research results are reported widely
through technical papers and a high quality ‘Official Publications’
series. Knowledge gained is further transferred to the user community
through the EuroSDR education service based on short concentrated distance
eLearning courses.
Membership:
A national GI production or research organisation from any European country (member of the Council of Europe)
may become a Member of EuroSDR. Applications for membership should be addressed to the Secretariat.
Vision:
The vision of EuroSDR is to be the European research platform for National
Mapping Agencies (NMA’s), Academic Institutes, Private Sector, Industry
and User’s Groups, on issues related to the implementation of technology
developments in view of optimising the provision (collection, processing,
storage, maintenance, visualisation, dissemination and use) of core data
(data serving as a spatial framework for organisations involved in monitoring,
management and development) in a Geoinformation Infrastructure (GII) context.
EuroSDR research is organised around five Commissions, namely:
- Commission 1: Sensors, primary data acquisition and georeferencing
- Commission 2: Image analysis and information extraction
- Commission 3: Production systems and processes
- Commission 4: Data Specifications
- Commission 5: Network Services
EuroSDR research serves the whole European Geoinformatics Community,
deals with problems of more than local significance, and is carried out
by means of international co-operation.
