Geosensor Networks

Workshop objectives

Geosensor Networks have received strong interest in recent years. The basic principle is that a large number of potentially simple sensors can achieve a global perception of environment using their individual sensing facilities together with communication and cooperation. This topic deals with inherently spatial aspects like positioning and sensing the local environment, however, it also includes aspects of data communication and data processing. Thus, different communities are dealing with this topic from different perspectives.
This single-track
, focussed workshop concentrated on recent developments and future directions of Geosensor Networks which relate both to geodetic and non-geodetic applications. The workshop brought together researchers, technology developers and users of the different involved disciplines and thus provided a forum for fruitful discussions.

Workshop topics

Topics of the workshop contained basic concepts, research issues as well as applications:

  • Scientific and technical aspects of Geosensor Networks (sensor network design, communication, positioning)

  • The OGC Sensor Web Enabling Initiative

  • Information extraction from sensor network data

  • Geo-Applications (geoscientific, environmental)

  • Geosensor Networks and National Mapping and Cadastre Agencies & INSPIRE

  • Geosensor Networks beyond geodetic applications

  • Geosensor Networks and security
